| Separate applications and assessment questionnaires are required per privacy policy. For example, if your website has more than one privacy policy you will need to submit a separate application and questionnaire to cover each policy. If you have multiple websites but they all have the same privacy policy you will only be required to submit one application and questionnaire. If you are unsure of your pricing please contact us at bbbprivacy@cbbb.bbb.org. If upon reviewing your completed Compliance Assessment Questionnaire, BBBOnLine determines you will need to pay additional fees we will notify you.
BBBOnLine Application Confidentiality
BBBOnLine's application process is confidential. BBBOnLine will not release the names of any businesses that have applied for the seal, or any other information that might lead to disclosure of an applicant's identity. Once a company is approved for the seal, BBBOnLine will add the company's name to the list of seal recipients on its web site and may otherwise publish the name of the company as a program participant.
BBBOnLine will keep confidential any proprietary information supplied by a business in connection with its BBBOnLine privacy program application or to maintain the seal. While BBBOnLine may release aggregate information on issues relating to the privacy program, there are only two circumstances under which BBBOnLine will release proprietary information without a participant's consent. The first is if BBBOnLine is required by law to release such information. In this instance, BBBOnLine will notify a participant if the government or a court seeks proprietary information about a participant. BBBOnLine at times may also be required to release proprietary information to its privacy complaint dispute resolution process to resolve disputes concerning a participant's seal participation. BBBOnLine will notify a participant when a dispute is filed against it and the confidentiality protections of BBBOnLine's dispute resolution process will apply.
Proprietary information includes billing and financial information such as annual sales data and a participant's processes to secure personal and other online data and to meet other privacy program requirements. Proprietary information does not include information supplied to BBBOnLine that is publicly available, that BBBOnLine receives from a source other than the participant, or that BBBOnLine independently receives or develops (such as a company's status in the program or aggregate statistical information).
Displaying of the Privacy Seal
Applicants may not display the BBBOnLine Privacy Seal or make claims about privacy program compliance on their website, in press releases or elsewhere until BBBOnLine advises them of their compliance.
